Issues

These are the issues I plan to work on as your State Representative.

Energy Workers – In Weld County, our backbone is the strength of our workforce. That’s why I support an all-of-the-above energy strategy and am 100% on the side of our energy workers and their families. I’ve stood up to members of both parties to protect worker’s rights, and am working to attract more high-quality job opportunities for the in-demand skills our energy workers have to improve our state’s energy production including the oil and gas industry. We need to do more to make sure that workers and families are healthy and safe on and off the job, and to make sure that energy corporations are being fair to their workers and consumers – because here in Weld County, families are both

Mental & Behavioral Health – As a school psychologist in public education, my passion is working with students with mental and behavioral health issues, developmental disabilities and other learning differences. Increasing access to Mental and Behavioral Health resources in schools and our communities is crucial for student success, and to improve the overall well-being and safety of our population. I will always fight to improve the mental and physical health of my community. That’s a promise.

Cost of Living – Rising costs are unacceptable, and are squeezing our families. We have to do more. I helped deliver an $800 TABOR refund and bipartisan property tax relief that gets money back in our pockets now, and stood up to out-of-state landlords who made rents sky high. I passed a bill which gives you consumer transparency as you pick your health insurance and pharmacy benefits. I voted for tax exemptions for seniors including a bill I sponsored making senior homestead exemptions portable. But there’s more to get done: I believe we need to target corporate price gouging at the pump and at the grocery aisle, and keep finding ways to improve costs of many essentials such as health insurance and child care.

Education – As an educator, I know that strong schools are the foundation of thriving Colorado. I’m proud we fully-funded Colorado’s education budget for the first time in fifteen years. I’ve helped lead the effort for better mental health support for children in schools, and have passed legislation and pushed for safety improvements that make our classrooms better places to learn. And we have more to do: on getting hard-working teachers pay raises, doing more for STEM education and programs that connect our students with employers and jobs of the future, and ensuring every child graduates ready for the career or college of their choosing.

Reproductive Rights and Abortion Care – I am proud to say I am 100% pro-choice. Women have the right to receive medical services from their health care provider without interference from government regulations.

Safety – Weld County has been my home for 40 years, and I know how important it is to keep our families safe. I’ve stood up to my own party and add more tools, training, and resources for Weld County law enforcement and first responders, and empowered law enforcement with strengthened “red flag” laws. We need to do more, too: We have to continue to combat the scourge of deadly drugs like fentanyl and continue to increase our children’s safety as we send them off to school.

Local Economy – In communities like Greeley and Evans, we need to do extra for our local economy, too. I worked with Republicans and Democrats to deliver four new medical schools across our state – including one right here in Weld County: UNC’s new College of Osteopathic Medicine. Not only will it be an economic driver for the community, but it will also provide relief for the shortage of healthcare professionals that is driving up the cost of care in our state. House District 50 is richly diverse. I support and advocate for all the individuals, families and communities in our district. Please reach out if my office can help you with anything. 303-866-2929 repmmcyoung@gmail.com
